Message from our Honourary Chair: Janet Yale, Executive Vice President of Telus.

I am pleased to be honourary chair of An Evening with Abigail event for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.  This event was created by Rochelle Greenberg, in honour of her dear friend who succumbed to breast cancer in 1996 after a four year battle.

As a board member and avid supporter of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, I regularly witness first-hand the impressive work of the Cancer Foundation, work that is made possible through the generous donations of people like you across this city.  The Cancer Foundation is dedicated to helping people survive cancer, uniting those who want to be active in the fight for cancer survivorship, drawing on their experiences and resources to fund the gaps between what can be done and what is being done to increase cancer survival rates in Eastern Ontario.

It is vitally important to raise awareness and funds in support of the ongoing battle against breast cancer and all women’s cancers.   Please give generously - cancer impacts all of us and with love, support and encouragement, as well as early diagnosis and treatment, we can increase cancer survivorship.

Congratulations to the organizing committee and all of the volunteers and contributors for keeping the memory of Abigail alive.

I extend a heartfelt thank you to each of you here tonight for your support of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Enjoy your evening.

Message from our Honourary Patron: Elizabeth Manley

I am honoured to serve as Patron for the 2009 An Evening with Abigail fundraiser –  Ottawa’s Premiere Pink Carpet Event.  We are not only celebrating the legacy of ‘Abigail’ but we are also raising important funds for research into all women’s cancers – a cause that is close to my heart.

Cancer touched my family just a few short years ago.  That’s when my mom Joan was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  An while she lost her battle with this disease I know she would be proud of the work we are doing together in the fight against cancer – not only in raising funding for research, but also bringing cancer prevention and awareness into the spotlight.

As we celebrate the 5th anniversary of ‘An Evening with Abigail’ I wanted to take a moment to thank the dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly behind-the-scenes ensuring tonight’s event is a huge success; the corporate sponsors, who year after year support our cause and the individual donors who provide unique auction items sure to capture your attention.

On behalf of the 2009 An Evening with Abigail organizing committee and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation – I like to thank you for your patronage of tonight’s event.  You can show your support for this great cause by bidding generously, and bidding often!

Enjoy the evening.

Message from the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation:

‘An Evening with Abigail’ is one of the city’s most beloved fundraisers and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation is thrilled to once again work alongside David & Rochelle Greenberg to stage the 2009 Pink Carpet event.

Tonight’s fundraiser is a great example of how the Cancer Foundation is working in partnership with the community to ensure cancer care and research remain at the forefront right here in Eastern Ontario.

Since its inception, ‘An Evening with Abigail’ has raised more than $750,000 for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation – and we are putting those funds to work right here in this region and in turn helping more women survive cancer.

Proceeds from ‘An Evening with Abigail,’ along with other Cancer Foundation fundraisers, have been used to ensure that research into all women’s cancers remain a top priority.  The Cancer Foundation is not only funding innovative pilot projects, but seed funding is also allowing local researchers to turn those initial funds into larger national and international grants - often leading to pre-clinical or clinical trials.

On behalf of the Cancer Foundation Board of Directors and staff I wish to congratulate David & Rochelle Greenberg for their leadership and the organizing committee for their dedication to the event.  Tonight’s successes are also due to the amazing support we have received from our generous sponsors and attendees.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Guy Legault
